The promoter Brutal Noise Producciones, with years of experience organizing concerts of all types within the world of Rock and Metal, organized the fourth installment of the festival of the same name. The crazy idea of their thinking heads has been to prepare a festival that spans almost three months and with more than thirty confirmed groups, including those that gave way to this night of extreme Spanish metal.
I arrived at the room around 9pm and Riot of Violence said goodbye with a version of the parody “Niños Mutantes” that I don't think defines the group's compositions, so I can't say anything more about them.
The next to act were Avgrunn, a Death Metal group with Black influences, which are renowned on the scene of the capital city. They left behind the blood with which they have been stained on other occasions to go on stage in a less aggressive way. His forty minutes of performance focused on the compositions of his debut EP called 'The Silent Corpse'. Without wasting their work, it is a group that lacks many hours of rehearsal and composition, their music is poor, there are even occasions when it seems that there are two different groups on stage since they have not yet defined their style well and there are songs that hardly have to do with each other. As for the performance, I do not know if it would be because it was the last concert of the singer (that when he said goodbye and dedicated some nice words to his companions they did not even deign to look at him) but there was a lack of unity and character in the staging.
We went from Old School Death Metal to a modern one, influenced by groups like Mnemic or Suicide Silence. Without being a lover of this style, the Barcelonans More Than Hate, who offer nothing new, have the charisma and the precise potential of this type of group, which is still on the rise, for a European projection. They are currently recording their first full length, after a series of demos, we will see how the public and critics receive it.
The real reason for my attendance was to see The Bleeding Sun back on stage after several line-up changes. Incomprehensibly they are one of the many groups that deserve much more than what they have and should be succeeding both inside and outside the Spanish borders with their avant-garde Black Metal. They took advantage of this concert to present their two new members in society: singer Bigg Josh and bassist Scar. In almost an hour of live they reviewed their albums to date (since 2005 they haven't released anything new, it's about time!) With songs like “Shapeless Like Water”, “Prelude To Strom”, “The Ravens Are Crying Blood Again ", And" King of Nowhere. "
It is already known that when there are changes in formation there is always a tendency to compare and that comparisons are odious, and it is even more delicate when it comes to the singer, who is usually the instrument that the listener first perceives. Personally, of all the singers that The Bleeding Sun has had so far, I prefer the perfect combination of Uryol and Markvs, above all for the majesty of the clean vocal parts, very in line with the group's vision of the music. Bigg Josh's failure is precisely these parts, which should be further refined, as well as eliminating the ugly habit of lengthening the last syllable of words. Likewise, it was the first performance with the group, so we will have to wait for him to finish adapting and give his opinion again. Hopefully having the full line-up again, The Bleeding Sun won't take long to present a new album.
And we ended the night with one of the most international Spanish groups, Avulsed. I think that describing a concert of theirs is not necessary at this point, anyone has seen them countless times and has laughed at how easy-going Rotten is on stage with his classics “que pasa peña” like Neng de Castefa. Of course, mention the special set-list in commemoration of his twenty years fighting with songs that had not been played for eons as "Skinless", "Carnivoracity" or "Addicted To Carrion", along with those of his latest album, such as which gives him his name "Nullo (The Pleasure of Self-Mutilation)" or "Breaking Hymens", and the classics of his concerts "Gorespattered Suicide", Blessed By Gore "," Sich Sich Sex ", ending the evening with" Vaginal Exorcism ”. Surprisingly, the crowd was quite cold and the classic circle-pits that they usually have in their concerts were not performed, only headbancing on rare occasions, although Rotten was constantly trying to liven up the atmosphere. They informed us that in commemoration of this anniversary, they will re-record songs from all their albums with the current line-up and sound, which they hope will come out in the middle of the year, and that in 2012 we will have new compositions of what will be their sixth album. study. So we still have Avulsed for quite a while.
The night was somewhat cold and with a rather poor attendance, just over a hundred people. I suppose that coinciding with three other events, among them a concert by Moho and Warchetype, which although it may not seem like it, is direct competition with this event, and the horde of Extreme Metal concerts that the Barcelona agenda has, influenced the little atmosphere of the room. Really the main course was Avulsed from Madrid, this is the time I have seen them with less public and whenever they come to Barcelona they are very well received, since the rest of the line-up hardly attracts an audience. We hope that for the rest of the events organized by this promoter the response will be much more positive.
