Dark Funeral + Carach Angren + Nefarium + Zonaria
By ESter
At 7:00 p.m. on a Thursday that could be anyone, I went to take the subway to see the Swedish Dark funeral live, who once again came to the peninsula with three other groups.
They opened doors promptly at 8:00 p.m., as usual the bad habit of paying a ticket to see 4 groups reigned and they did not appear until 9:30 p.m. when the first group has already played. This time it was the turn of the Black Metallers Carach Angren . With a somewhat unusual formation, since they did not have bass, even so the rhythm did not decay since the drums perfectly executed the complicated rhythms of the songs. They surprised us by their intros, since some of them were spoken and with background music.
Carach Angren gave the best they could of themselves even with the lack and little movement of the public. It must also be said that the group did not make much effort to interact with them. They played for about 30 minutes. In short, a correct concert, it passed without any altercation.
The next group to play was Nefarium with much more "traya" than the previous ones. Personally, Nefarium was the opening group that I liked the most and I think that most of the public would agree with me. The props were much more complete, Behind them hung a banner where the fat and bloody Pope of Rome appeared, In addition to the singer of the band he wore a habit around his neck. Musically they did not have a dirty sound at all, rather their music was full of catchy and distinguishable riffs, a constant drums that perfectly set the rhythm that the other members of the band had to follow. They also made an effort to learn a great phrase said by a large part of the Spanish «de puta madre!» Nefarium made the wait for the group that led the poster much more bearable.
Finally the last opening acts were played by Zonaria, which were honestly the three that I liked the least, since they are described as a black / death group. They had a good entrance and seemed to make merit of their description but by the second song that merit completely collapsed and they began to sound like any black / Viking group, very fashionable by the way, and surely to the liking of many of the attendees of the concert. But the truth is that what we expected to hear was not even remotely songs that sounded like the "Sagas" of equilibrium.
Zonaria offered us a performance in my opinion not very accepted by the public, since the songs were much of them as long as those of Moonsorrow and very musical with many guitars without distorting and some other guitar solo worthy of any group of power. Even so, the group tried to make the public feel good, they were given to them, which by the way was beginning to be more numerous.
When the curtain was lowered for the third time and the Zonaria said goodbye, the room began to fill up, even so, it must be said that the room was never full. I suppose the reason for that is that the Dark funeral Swedes visit us more or less often. Around 22:00 the curtain rose for the last time that night, for the expected Dark funeral to come out.
The five members of the band appeared on the stage, totally still while the background music began to play. Only when Emperor Magnus Caligula (DF singer) raised his head did the other members. They began to sound with the same "reed" to which they have us accustomed but with a much better sound than when they played in venues like Mephisto.
The Swedes gave us a terrifying tour of much of their discography but without forgetting their new CD. In my opinion they found a balance between the band's new material and the old one, which is what establishes them as one of the pillars of black metal.
They played songs like: Thus i have spoken, Bloodfrozen, Atrum regina, 666 voices inside, Godess of sodomy, The bird of the vampiir, An apprentice of Satan among others.
Dark Funeral offered us a sample of good black metal live, with dirty guitars and the always present double bass drum. In my opinion, they more than met the expectations that the public had in reference to them.
Since the public was totally devoted to what the band offered them, even so, the "pogos" typical of a concert of these characteristics were conspicuous by their absence, they tried a couple of times but both failed. It is a pity that in concerts of these characteristics with groups of this type, they do not fill small rooms like Salamandra.
In definitive Dark funeral and the three opening acts (some more than others) made us spend a night full of raw and dark sounds. In my opinion, everyone who was lucky enough to attend enjoyed all the energy that Dark Funeral gave off.
